The Ultrafilter Closure in ZF

چکیده

It is well known that, in a topological space, the open sets can be characterized using filter convergence. In ZF (Zermelo-Fraenkel set theory without the Axiom of Choice), we cannot replace filters by ultrafilters. It is proven that the ultrafilter convergence determines the open sets for every topological space if and only if the Ultrafilter Theorem holds. More, we can also prove that the Ultrafilter Theorem is equivalent to the fact that uX = kX for every topological space X, where k is the usual Kuratowski Closure operator and u is the Ultrafilter Closure with uX(A) := {x ∈ X : (∃U ultrafilter in X)[U converges to x and A ∈ U ]}. However, it is possible to built a topological space X for which uX 6= kX , but the open sets are characterized by the ultrafilter convergence. To do so, it is proved that if every set has a free ultrafilter then the Axiom of Countable Choice holds for families of non-empty finite sets. It is also investigated under which set theoretic conditions the equality u = k is true in some subclasses of topological spaces, such as metric spaces, second countable T0-spaces or {R}.

A model with a measurable which does not carry a normal measure

We construct a model of ZF in which there is a measurable cardinal but there is no normal ultrafilter over it.

The Transfer Principle holds for definable nonstandard models under Countable Choice

Łoś’s theorem for (bounded) D-ultrapowers, D being the ultrafilter introduced by Kanovei and Shelah [Journal of Symbolic Logic, 69(1):159–164, 2004], can be established within Zermelo–Fraenkel set theory plus Countable Choice (ZF+ACω). Thus, the Transfer Principle for both Kanovei and Shelah’s definable nonstandard model of the reals and Herzberg’s definable nonstandard enlargement of the super...

Sober Spaces, Well-Filtration and Compactness Principles

We investigate various notions of sobriety for topological spaces that are equivalent in ZF set theory with the Axiom of Choice but may differ in the absence of choice principles. The Ultrafilter Principle UP (alias Prime Ideal Theorem) suffices for the desired conclusions. We derive from UP three topological postulates and prove their equivalence in ZF without choice: the Well-Filtration Princ...

Canonical Models for Fragments of the Axiom of Choice

We develop a technology for investigation of natural forcing extensions of the model L(R) which satisfy such statements as “there is an ultrafilter” or “there is a total selector for the Vitali equivalence relation”. The technology reduces many questions about ZF implications between consequences of the axiom of choice to natural ZFC forcing problems.

Kleisli Operations for Topological Spaces

The axioms for a topology in terms of open sets follow necessarily from the intuitive relation of this concept with ultrafilter convergence. By contrast, the intuitive relations between neighbourhood systems or closure operations on the one hand and ultrafilter convergence on the other lead only to pretopologies. Kleisli operations, previously used in categorical algebra, greatly facilitate cat...
